When I first started taking lessons with Andy three years ago, I had zero experience. I had never even held a pair of drumsticks before. I really wanted to learn how to play some of my favorite songs, but I didn’t really know where to begin. Youtube has so much information, but is really overwhelming for someone who doesn’t at least know a little bit about the instrument they are trying to learn.

Having an instructor like Andy was essential in me getting through the beginning to where I am today. I’ve learned how to keep time and count, read drum notation, pick out parts by ear, and now I’m even confident enough to play with other people. I recently joined a band with some folks I met on Craigslist, and I never thought I’d be sure enough in my ability to do something like that. Playing music with others has been one of the most exciting things I’ve done.

When things get busy, the online lessons have been a lifesaver, too. They're super convenient and he manages to keep them just as engaging and productive as in-person sessions. Id always rather be in-person just because its fun, but I learn just as much and don’t have to skip lessons with this option at times.

Andy’s teaching style really works for me. He knows how to challenge me without overwhelming, and always seems to find the right balance between technical work and just having fun. I’ve really come to appreciate how skilled he is as a drummer and teacher. Also, his studio space is such a great environment to learn in. It’s a cool place to be creative. I’m definitely glad I that I chose him to be my teacher.
